Grunge
Logan Sables
Grunge Rock is a form of alternative rock that emerged during the
mid-1980s, inspired by hardcore punk and heavy metal. Grunge is
generally characterized by heavy electric guitars, drums, and
"growling" vocals. The grunge aesthetic is more stripped down in
comparison to other forms of rock, but many grunge musicians were
noted for their unkempt appearance, usually consisting of plaid shirts
or tee shirts, baggy jeans, wild, messy hair, and combat boots, as
well as their complete rejection of theatrics. Grunge became
successful in the early 1990s, with bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam,
Alice in Chains, and Stone Temple Pilots. Because of the success of
these bands, the popularity of alternative rock and grunge some of the
most listened to hard rock of that time. Although the grunge genre
may have faded from listeners' ears since the late 1900s, their
influence continues to affect modern rock music.
